Give the Gift of Spay Neuter to a Low Income Pet Owner

See all wishes from Humane Society of Sedona

Description

People who love their pets want the best for them, and spay/neuter is good for your pet. That's why HSS recently re-opened our low-cost spay/neuter clinic to low-income families in our area. But even with our low rates, some area pet lovers simply cannot afford to get their pets altered. We've had to turn away people. Our hearts break for them. We're hoping to find 10 people who will donate so that one pet of a low or fixed income family can be spayed or neutered at our clinic. Many people who want to do the right thing but can't afford to. Won't you help us help them help their beloved pets this Holiday? Visit http://bit.ly/HelpHSSHelpPets for more information or to donate, call 928-282-4679, or email rpoling@humanesocietyofsedona.org.

American Flag Display Along 89A

Description

The Sedona Marine Corps League, in cooperation with the City of Sedona, will display American flags along Highway 89A during patriotic holidays throughout the year. We will be seeking donations to support this endeavor. The first flag display will take place from Thursday, November 9 until Monday, November 13 in celebration of Veterans Day.

The Arizona Department of Transportation has granted approval for the City of Sedona and the Sedona Marine Corps League to display American flags from fifty light poles along 89A in honor of Veterans Day. Next year, we hope to increase the number of flags permitted for this patriotic display. Flags will be hung just prior to upcoming holidays and remain on display for several days. Planned holidays for displays in 2018 are Presidents’ Day, Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day and Veterans Day.

Volunteers interested in helping with this project should contact Ray Ojeida at 219-712-0489 or Ray Stueve at 928-821-3300. Fundraising will support flag display and the organization’s other charitable efforts.

Materials to make planters for school gardens

See all wishes from Gardens for Humanity

Description

Gardens for Humanity is Helping Schools in our Region Develop Effective Learning Gardens.

There are a variety of school gardens and we need a variety of materials.

For container gardens: 10 -15 gallon nursery tubs or any appropriate large size pot or container. Even old galvanized water tanks can make durable planters.

For raised planting beds: Lumber in good condition (can be used but not split or rotten) 2x6 lengths no shorter than 4 feet. Long pieces to 16 feet would be wonderful! 4x4 posts over 1 foot in length for corner braces.

Lag bolts from 4 to 6 inches long.

Many schools could use sturdy fencing material, weed barrier cloth, hardware cloth, and wood chips. Good planting soil with no chemicals is always welcome.

If you do not have used materials donations are always welcome. You can donate specifically for school gardens on the Donate page of our website: gardensforhumanity.org

The school garden movement has clearly engaged many schools. To maximize the impact, we will help schools plan and integrate their garden into the curriculum. The school's garden program can help promote good nutrition, an understanding of where our food comes from, hands-on experience with the environment, as well as cooperative learning in the arts and humanities.

Help Us Organize the Sedona Arts Festival!

See all wishes from Sedona Arts Festival

Description

The Sedona Arts Festival is looking for people who are fun, organized, and committed to help us organize our annual festival, held the second weekend in October every year. SAF is in its 27th year and produces Sedona's oldest and largest premiere arts event. This year's festival dates are Oct 7 and 8, 2017.

For this year's festival, we are specifically looking for:

RAFFLE TEAM - an organizational team (2 or 3 people) to put together our raffle booth. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SOLICIT DONATIONS FOR THE RAFFLE. Our raffle prizes are all donated from the artists who are participating in the festival so you don't have to ask for a thing! We just need a few good organizers who can prepare, set up, and run the booth smoothly. We have an experienced group of volunteers to support you!

SITE CREW - we are looking for a core team to take on all the logistics of the festival itself - field layout, artist set up, festival weekend logistics, tear down, and clean up. We have an experienced Site Manager to support you but we are looking for a co-chair for him. He has been woefully understaffed the last two years and we would so appreciate any help you can give us in this area!

We are a fun and flexible group with a fabulous annual event. If you like us enough to join our Board of Directors, we are always looking for people to serve year round in our efforts as an organization. The Sedona Arts Festival financially supports arts education in our community through grants and scholarships. The annual festival is ultimately a fund raiser for that mission.

We would love it if you would join us! Can't wait to hear from you!

Pet Friendly Shelter Project

See all wishes from Verde Valley Sanctuary

Description

48% of people suffering from domestic abuse need help caring for their pets. It’s not uncommon for person to stay with their abuser if they cannot bring their pet, or pets, into our shelter. Bringing pets into an already crowed group house can be very complicated. Most people really need their pets in the room with them; not boarded out. We want to develop an adjoining property (next to our current shelter) into a pet friendly, four-bedroom shelter. This is a cost-effective chance for us without building from scratch. Purchase cost will be $120,000. Modification costs will be $60,000. Our first year operation cost $45,000. Total $225,000. We have started a dedicated capital fund toward this goal. This is an interesting and creative project. (There are only a few domestic violence shelter that take pets.)

Back to School Boost!

See all wishes from Verde Valley Sanctuary

Description

Back To School Items!! 50% of our shelter residents and Outreach client's are children --often traumatized and now without belongings. They need backpacks, paper, pens, clothing, all types of school supplies. Even your cash donation sent to VVS can be marked "children's school supplies' and we will carefully apply the money to the children - we will take them to Walmart with their mother! Children are our priority. It's critical that we give them the boost they deserve. Domestic violence really sets a child back --often effecting the rest of their life. Help us break the cycle.

Building Campaign Needs Funding

Description

STILL NEED FUNDING FOR BUILDING CAMPAIGN.
Need another $1,500.00

This past winter Red Rose Inspiration For Animals had the pleasure of collaborating with Central Arizona Animal Search and Rescue (CAASR) on two separate rescue missions.

CAASR primarily searches and rescues lost pets and homeless animals in the Verde Valley.

Last Winter it began with the search of a dog named Noel that had been lost from a hotel in West Sedona when an employee opened the door to room where her owner was staying. Noel was rescued 2 months later and is safe and sound back with her owner today.

Soon after CAASR was in search of another dog in West Sedona this time a homeless dog later named Soldier. Unfortunately for Soldier he didn't have a loving owner waiting for his safe return. Soldier was taken to the vet and neutered, vaccinated and received the medical attention required as Red Rose Inspiration For Animals took care of the veterinary cost as part of the collaboration.

Soldier is still currently with CAASR until they can find him his forever home.

Soldier has specific requirements and because he is not particularly dog friendly he can't coexist inside with the over a dozen canines CAASR has taken in as rescues.

CAASR is looking to purchase an additional building for their rescue dogs. A structure made by a company,Weather King and they need your help to purchase the building and equipment needed to set it up. Needing to get the dogs out of the elements and into a safe and environment with heat and air conditioning. Anything helps as they need to raise 5,000.00

Red Rose Inspiration for Animals has made a donation for this much needed campaign. Please consider joining us and donating to this campaign and helping CAASR to get dogs like Soldier in an air conditioned and heated dwelling safe from the elements....CAASR is an all volunteer organization driven by the passion to help animals in need.

You can support by donating on Go Fund Me https://www.gofundme.com/caasr-kennel-building or sending a check to CAASR P.O Box 4394 Camp Verde, AZ 86322. Thank you for your consideration.

People Working For Pets

Description

Help Wanted at Red Rose Inspiration For Animals

We are a very small volunteer based organization that makes a huge difference in the community by offering FREE spay and neuter services to pet owners that are financially challenged while low cost spay and neuter is barely even offered for over a year now in this community and can be costly to pet owners on a budget costing up to $100.00 per animal based on weight.

We also provide emergency vet care and help with surgeries for seniors living on a fixed income helping them get their animal companion the urgent care they need and deserve.

Assisting homeless animals with spay/neuter, vaccinations and medical and finding forever homes.

While also providing sponsorship in a transitional home for pet owners who find themselves and their animal existing in extreme weather conditions living on the streets.

These are just some of the things we do as "People Working for Pets"

We need people who want to Volunteer to work in the field with our TNR Program throughout the Verde Valley either trapping and transporting or being a foster parent for feral kittens young enough that can be socialized to be adopted. We are the only organization in the Verde Valley with a TNR Program at this time.

We also need people who want to work in our retail thrift and artist boutique the Red Rose Thriftique in the Village of Oak Creek either on the sales floor or behind the scenes.
Inquire within at info@redroseinspiration.org

Bird Volunteers needed for Peace Garden

See all wishes from Gardens for Humanity

Description

Attention bird lovers! We need volunteers to visit the Peace Garden at the Sedona Creative Life Center to make sure that the bird feeders are well stocked. Mornings or evenings when the temperature is cooler and the birds are more active would be the best time to check up that our feathered friends have everything they need. The Peace Garden is a paradise in the midst of Sedona with native plants, fruit trees, ornamental shrubs all thriving in a park-like setting. The Peace Pole and many of the trees from around the world are part of a meditative web of beauty and global peace. Volunteers can explore the garden when there and perhaps find a special place of beauty and contemplation. There are secluded shady places to sit and absorb the quite energy of nature when you come to visit.

Scientific Calculators

Description

The right tools make a difference! We try to provision our students for the transition to secondary school. It is expensive for rural Ugandan students to go to the next level of education. Scientific calculators only cost $18 each but that is often more than a sponsor can provide when faced with all the mandatory items a student requires to move to secondary. Please help by providing a donation to the Calculator Fund at BwindiCommunityProgram.org or by writing a check to Bwindi Community Program and mailing it to 20 Soldiers Trail, Sedona AZ 86336. It is the little things that make the difference between success and a mediocre attempt. These students deserve all the ammunition we can provide!

Scientific Calculators

See all wishes from Bwindi Community Program

Description

Students in secondary school in Uganda benefit from being able to use scientific calculators. The transition from primary school requires a lot of provisioning of these students; supplies mandated by the school and personal items for the year of boarding. Bwindi Community Program asks the sponsors to provide a great deal to make this transition comfortable for our rural students. Scientific calculators are not mandatory so are not on the list. But scientific calculators for each student can make a difference in performance. BCP wants to make certain that all the sponsored students have the tools to do well. The calculators only cost $18 each. So much good will come out of so little! Please help the students achieve their goals by having the best tools.

Can you make planter dollies for school container garden?

Is there a person you know with the tools and know-how who can fabricate some dollies for containers for a garden at Big Park Elementary School?

The dollies are made with 5 pieces of 2 x 4 16" long. They are screwed together with deck screws and have a metal brace in the corners. They are finished off with rotating coaster wheels. See the accompanying photo. We could use about a dozen of them in total. A great project for a men's group or service club.

Description

Teaching in a rural school in Uganda is a challenge. To attract and retain good teachers, Bishop Comboni School has erected an eight-teacher residential facility with a communal kitchen and dining room. It is beautiful and construction is complete. The only thing standing in the way of occupancy is the lack of furniture for the building. Bwindi Community Program has started a fund to help the school with this purchase. A donation of any size to Bwindi Community Program at 10 Soldiers Trail, Sedona AZ 86336 would be wonderful. We are a 501c3.. You can provide a Happy New Year for the teachers who dedicate their lives to education in a rural setting. Help retain good teachers for a student body of 700! They will love you for it.

Making Charms

See all wishes from SedonaKind

Description

Kindness Charm Story

A group of women in Sedona have been focused on a special approach to kindness for over four years. The women have been making "Kindness" charms out of broken, recycled and surplus donated jewelry and dispersing them, not only around Sedona, but across the nation and world wide.

Each Charm had a tag that says "Take me home and spread kindness". To date the women have distributed over 4,000 charms to every state in the US and over three dozen countries, in the hope that they are found by someone that needs to be reminded that they are loved.
Donations can be dropped off at Remax at the Safeway Plaza or
Goldenstein Gallery on Dry Creek Rd.

Description

CHARMING DEN

When the Kindness Charmers outgrew their current space we sent out a plea for help. We didn’t want to turn away Charmers and we also needed space to leave our donated materials. Lori Reinhold, Manager of Alma de Sedona, stepped up without hesitation to provide us with a new “Den”. It’s the perfect location with seating for 20+, and lush views out every window. Lori sealed the deal baking us an awesome blueberry cake! After seeing the unique guest rooms, pool, gardens and pond…we can’t wait to return next month; and we now know where to suggest out-of-towners stay. Thank you also to Laurie Dawe who has been our Den Mother for the past four years, graciously sharing her home with us. Visit Alma de Sedona online. Alma de Sedona Website.

KIS kids in school

See all wishes from SedonaKind

Description

Remember the rock ‘n roll band KISS? Well, we’re SO MUCH COOLER than they are!!!! Why, you ask? The Kindness in School’s (KIS) mission is to acknowledge students’ kindness to create a more compassionate and considerate environment in the school, classroom and on the playground. This promotes Value of Self, Acceptance and Friendship. Our goals are to help students understand what kindness is and to recognize, encourage and acknowledge ‘acts of kindness’ in everyday life. Finally, the objective is to encourage and support teachers and staff in recognizing and promoting ‘acts of kindness’ in their schools.

WOW! HEAVY words and AMBITIOUS goals! SO, why all the excitement and why is this SO COOL?! BECAUSE if YOU get involved at the ground floor as we go into the elementary grades, this is where the seeds germinate. BUT, you all know that old time honored adage “It takes a village…”! Well, we need that village and we need it NOW! We don’t expect you to go solo into a classroom or spend hours of slave labor but would you be willing to check us out and see if you could become part of KIS to do something. Children promoting kindness are our hope for the future and if that’s not WAY COOLER than KISS…

Volunteer Jobs:

Meet and Greeter: We are a busy facility and need a helper to answer questions, check membership with electronics drop-off, and help customers find things we offer to the public, such as bubble wrap, packing peanuts, and egg cartons. Tuesday and Thursday mornings we need someone to assist customers to dispose of their documents. **You will learn a LOT about recycling and meet some fabulous people in the process!

Cleaning & Organizer: There always something to sweep up, put away, reorganize, dust, or clean, and litter to pick up off our street. ** You can learn a lot about the business side of recycling, what goes where and why.

Processor: Styrofoam processing and getting batteries ready for shipping require a lot of attention. If you have a good eye for detail and like the satisfaction of seeing how much material you help keep from the landfill this is for you. ** This can look cool on your resume- “I helped process x pounds of material, and we never had to pay a fine for my batteries being incorrectly packed.”

Line Sorter: Like to get in the zone? Help us sort all the mixed plastics that come to the facility. ** You will learn about the enormous variety of products on the market and what is recyclable and what isn’t.

Educator Assistant: If you’re creative and have teaching skills, we can use your ideas for classroom activities. Help us design lessons and make hands-on activities. Also help with education events and outreach tables. ** Great experience in the field of education and very rewarding!

Crafter: Plan recycled crafts and organize a monthly class. ** You get to keep your creations and be inspired by your students.

Adopt a Business: Small businesses sometimes don't have the resources to recycle. Volunteer to pick up their materials and take them to a drop-off site. ** You can assist in a waste audit and help a business get to near zero waste!

Fundraiser: If you have ideas on how to bring in funding, we need you. **Everlasting good karma.

Or create your own volunteer day by combining different jobs!

**What’s in it for you.

Textbooks and Science Lab Workbooks

See all wishes from Bwindi Community Program

Description

Bwindi Community Program (BCP) has learned about the need for Textbooks and Science Lab Workbooks at the rural Uganda secondary school where our older sponsored students study. There are never enough textbooks to allow each student to have one in their possession for a term. They have to be one of the lucky students to find a book in the library when they need it.

Science courses should be accompanied by individual lab workbooks. They allow the student to keep a personal record of the lesson in the lab. It is an invaluable tool in learning some challenging subjects. BCP would like your help to provide these for the students who cannot afford them.

Enhance the education of these students by writing a check to Bwindi Community Program for $15 each textbook or workbook. You may also donate online by visiting our website BwindiCommunityProgram.org. There is hope for a future for these children through education.

It is impossible in an environment where there is no electric service and only commercial lodges can afford to run a generator. The situation creates lost time and frustration for the hard-working students who return to school for the new term in need of help to regain their proficiency. A simple solar powered lamp would light up their evening and allow that precious study time while they are away from school. A good quality lamp can be purchased for $17 per student. The thirty eight students in secondary school will cheer your kindness.

Take an extra few minutes today to check for all the recyclables you may find in your home. There may be more than you think. Look on the Sedona Recycles web site for a list of all the materials they take. Make a concious effort to remind your friends and neighbors to recycle, use less plastic, take that reusable bottle from the back of the cupboard and start refilling it for yourself instead of picking up a plastic water bottle at the store. Remember this today and then again tomorrow. It may just become a habit. Be Kind to Mother Earth today, REDUCE, reuse and Recycle.

Grocery bills are going UP!

See all wishes from SedonaKind

Description

Our grocery bills seem to get higher every week! Living in Sedona we pay a bit more for the stores to transport all their merchandise up to the North Country. I was in line at Bashe's the other day and there was a woman with a $10 gift card in front of me. I could see her fumbling in her purse to come up with the additional $3 to cover her meager grocery bill. Since my wallet was already in my hand , I pulled out a $5 bill and said I would like to help. She was extremely grateful and a bit embarrassed but she clearly needed assistance.

There is a minimal income population in Sedona. We have our share of working poor who have trouble feeding their families. Donating to the Sedona Community Food Bank is one way to help. You may also concider purchasing a $10 food card at the grocery store to donate to the Sedona Area Homeless Alliance. Please drop off at 435 Coffee Pot Dr. or call Laurie Moore, 928-254-8912

Political Kindness

Description

Election season is now in full swing. The mud slinging begins in earnest! And not just by the candidates. Harsh political rhetoric is everywhere - Facebook, Instagram, Twitter - and so on. It seems no one can express a civil response to an opposing opinion. Maybe this is why Washington is broken! SedonaKind would love to see people open their minds before they open their "mouths," and speak kindly to others, even when they disagree - maybe especially when they disagree. Think kind thoughts, everyone, before you speak or post. Let's work together!

Description

In the 1890s, there was a lovely practice of sending a "mash note," which is defined as "a note that expresses love or affection for the person who receives it. In those days, the note would have been written on perfumed paper and probably hand-delivered. Today, we have many options: snail mail, email, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and so many more. But the intent may be the same. How wonderful to receive such a nice note! Better yet, how great it is to send one! Try it today - and be SedonaKind.
