The Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center of Cottonwood is located at 636 N. Main Street and is open Monday through Friday 8 am -4 pm.
The Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center of Cottonwood has opened its doors and has joined forces with the Sedona Sunrise Center. We service participants from the former Sedona Sunrise Center and are currently transporting participants from the Sedona area to our location daily. We are a medical model and welcome adults ages 18 and older with multiple types of disabilities including, but not limited to, strokes, Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, memory loss, various developmental disabilities, Multiple Sclerosis, spinal cord or head injuries as well as the frail elderly who are simply in need of socialization and stimulating activities.
Our participants benefit from medical monitoring, social interaction, nutritious meals and therapeutic recreational activities, counseling and support. Their family members and care givers benefit from the regular respite and the knowledge that their loved one is safe during the day, being cared for in a homelike environment.

Shelving

See all wishes from Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center

Description

We are really hoping to find some short shelves to place in our Main activity room. We have an open space below our TV that is about 4 feet high and a shelf would work great there to hide the TV cables and to help organize the items our participants use with the TV.

Nursing Supplies

See all wishes from Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center

Description

The Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center differs in many ways from a community or senior center and one of the primary differences is our nursing oversight. Each day we are open, Monday-Friday, a nurse oversees participant care. We are in need of some nursing items to replace older models donated previously. If you can help with the following, please contact Amber McCabe or Sally Clausen at 928.649.0788: Tympanic thermometer, Blood Pressure Cuff, Pulse Oximeter. Thank you!

Do you think your loved one would benefit from socializing with others? We are open 5 days a week, 8 am -4 pm and provide meals and therapeutic activities for a half or full days. There are several different funding sources that pay part or all of the daily cost. Call Amber McCabe at 928.649.0788 for more information.

Shelving

Description

The new year is upon us, and we are taking this opportunity to re-organize our storage area. We are required to have certain things on hand: water, blankets, and other emergency supplies. Over the past year we have also added many boxes of decorations for each season/theme as it has come along. Shelving would be a great help toward organizing and making space for future donations. Please contact Shelley at 928.649.0788. Thank you in advance!

Nerf Basketball Set

See all wishes from Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center

Description

We serve participants from ages 18-98. Our younger set would love to have a basketball hoop to practice and expend some energy with! I bet even some of our older crowd would, while seated, like to try their hands at a few "free throws".

Rubbermaid Bins/Adult Clothing

See all wishes from Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center

Description

We had an instance once at our sister Susan J. Rheem Center when the participants went fishing at Lynx Lake, got caught in the first monsoon of the season, and got drenched! Having a change of clothes on hand is a good thing! Many of the adults who come to the Center bring personal items for "just in case", such as a change of clothes, adult briefs, etc. Bins need to have a lid, and preferred size is shoebox. If you have clothing for men or women, we could use some of that as well. Men's or Women's dress or sweat pants are most needed. Contact Shelley Fields at 928.649.0788

Veteran's Contract Acquired!

See all wishes from Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center

Description

The Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center now has a contract with the VA. This means any qualified veteran can join our Center! Once the process has been completed, veterans are often qualified to join us for up to three days a week. This provides veterans with the socialization, therapeutic activities, and meals that our other participants enjoy, and provides their caregivers some respite. If you are interested in finding out if you or your loved one can begin attending, please call Amber McCabe at 928.649.0788.

Scholarship Funds for Outings

See all wishes from Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center

Description

Our participants love all of the activities and meals here at the Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center, but they also love going on our weekly outings. We schedule a variety of outings each month. A couple are free, but our participants love going to museums and restaurants, as well. Not all of our participants or their families have the means to go on these outings, so we are trying to build a scholarship fund specifically for these special times. If you can donate, please call Shelley Fields at 928.649.0788. All donations are tax-deductible.

Food Processor

See all wishes from Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center

Description

Our chef makes delicious, home-made meals daily; breakfast, lunch and dinner. As we continue to grow, our need for larger-capacity items grows. Our originally donated food processor is good for small projects, but we could really use a good-sized food processor. Perhaps one is hiding on the top shelf of your pantry...you thought you would do so much with it, but all it does is collect dust. Let us put it to good use! Contact Shelley Fields at 928.649.0788 to arrange drop-off or we can come collect it from you.

Pumpkins and Fall Decor

See all wishes from Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center

Description

The Susan J. Rheem Center is ready for fall, but our place is so large it takes a lot of decorations to really make this place festive! If you have extra fall decor that you don't plan to put in your home, please consider giving it to us. Also, we would love some pumpkins to decorate/carve this season. This activity will be a wonderful one for our participants to reminisce with on all sensory levels--smell, touch, taste, sight, and even sound as we carve! Please drop donations at 636 N Main St Monday -Friday, 8-4, or call Shelley Fields at 928.649.0788 to arrange pick-up via our transportation.

Pulse Oximeter/Nerf Basketball

See all wishes from Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center

Description

Yes, these needs are extremely diverse! These two needs exemplify our daily life here at the Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center. We are a medical day center where the participants are overseen by a nurse, medications are given as needed, and each participant has a individualized plan of care. Once a month the nurse takes the vitals on each participant in order to track their basic health and report changes to their physician as warranted. To that end, our pulse oximeter, donated by the Sedona Sunrise Center when we transitioned here to Cottonwood, is on the blink. If you can donate this item, found at your local pharmacy, it would be used often and greatly appreciated! The other item we need is a nerf basketball hoop/ball. We have younger participants that enjoy active games, and this game is missing from our repertoire. Participants often come to our Center because their caregivers need respite time, but they come back because they have fun! Please call Shelley Fields at 928.649.0788 or come to 636 N. Main St. in Cottonwood to drop off your donation and tour our Center Monday through Friday 8-4.

Mixer Received!

See all wishes from Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center

Description

Thank you so much to a local friend who saw our need in the Red Rock News. She remembered a like-new Kitchen Aid mixer, still in the original box, that was in her storage. This mixer hasn't been used for years, but will now get used several times a week by our chef. He was so excited to receive this, as he has been hand-whipping his cream for various desserts. Today we are having fresh berry parfaits for dessert, and this gift will make his life so much easier.

Are you a good conversationalist? Are you creative with crafts, music, gardening, or another hobby? Or are do you simply have a compassionate heart, great smile, and time to spend with our participants? Our Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center could use you! Our day begins at 8, but most participants arrive via our transportation by 9:30. After breakfast, we do a variety of activities until lunch, then have another segment of activities before snack time. These two segments before and after lunch are when our need is greatest. If you are good with groups, you could help a small group do a craft or woodworking project. If you prefer to help one on one, you could play chess, checkers, or similar games with those who also are preferring to do something apart from the main group. Please contact Shelley Fields at 928.649.0788 to sign up!

Kitchen Aide Mixer and/or Electric Burner

See all wishes from Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center

Description

Our chef cooks amazing food for our participants breakfast, lunch, and snack. Everything is made right here in our kitchen. When we first opened in March, we had received many items from the Sedona Sunrise Center. However, we are still in need of some items, as our Center is serving more and more clients every day! We need a Kitchen Aid mixer, preferably a commercial size (though we will happily take a standard home one as well), and an electric burner. Twice a month our chef performs a demonstration for our participants in an activity room, and the burner would help the entire group gathered around to see the action, rather than trying to view the stove from a back seat.

Thank you for supporting our wonderful participants and their families! We provide a welcome respite for caregivers, and these items will continue to ensure special programming for each individual involved. Please contact Shelley Fields at 928.649.0788.

Quilt

See all wishes from Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center

Description

Our building was originally built as the Cottonwood bowling alley. We have lots of wonderful rooms and spaces, but they are all still BIG. We have artwork and plants, but these large activity rooms can still be very echo-y. We would love to have some quilts donated to us that we can hang, with plaques recognizing the quilter, in these large rooms to absorb sound and help our participants feel even more at home. Please contact Shelley at 928.679.0788 to arrange drop-off or to meet our bus in Sedona.

Our focus at the Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center is to keep our participants of all ages (currently 21-99!) active body, mind, and soul. We need a karaoke machine for two reasons. First, we want our adults to have FUN! As we serve adults from 18-108 there is quite a variety of music they enjoy. If we had a karaoke machine they would get to sing along and ham it up to a variety of music. This would also serve as an amplifier.
