Verde Valley Caregivers wish you a happy and prosperous 2022!One way to ensure a happy new year is to volunteer! It's true. Helping others adds to your own happiness and feelings of self worth.
Consider volunteering to help our elderly neighbors, many of whom are living alone; many of whom are very poor. If you are not interested in providing transportation, there are a number of other ways to help. Walk the dog. Make friendly visits or phone calls. Help a person set up and use their smart phone or their voicemail.
See the complete list of possible options at https://vvcaregivers.org/volunteer-sign-up or phone 928-204-1238 to learn more and volunteer.

Benefactors of Red Rock State Park is Recruiting Board Members
See all wishes from Benefactors of Red Rock State Park
Description
The mission of the Benefactors of Red Rock State Park is “To help Red Rock State Park sustain and expand its role as a vital resource for Environmental and Cultural Education, as a model of riparian habitat preservation, and as a location for environmentally sensitive recreation.”We fulfill our mission by working under the direction of the Park Manager, funding initiatives and projects that would otherwise go unfunded. For example, we pay for transportation for groups of elementary school students to attend interactive and hands-on classes at the park. This past year, we applied for and received a $10,000 grant to replace old interpretive signs and create new ones. The signs have been fabricated and will be installed shortly. We’ve funded the installation of a new Outdoor Classroom that will be erected in December.
You can learn more about us by visiting our website at www.benefactorsrrsp.org.

A FUN opportunity for someone who enjoys puzzles, photography and old Sedona movies. We continue to get requests for a map identifying movie locations from the old films made in Sedona. We have lots of photos from the movies that show recognizable places. These could be visited and viewing points noted on a map. Even 10-12 locations would be good and if up to 20 - all the better! There are a couple people who can be interviewed to help identify some spots. This might include watching a few of the oldies to see what locations were used and then be able to say what movie(s) were filmed from that vantage point. Sound like fun....and a challenge? Did you know there are homeless children living in Sedona? Hope House of Sedona is a 501(C)3 working to provide transitional housing for Sedona's homeless children and their families. Our goal is to have Hope House open by the end of 2021. After receiving a HUD grant through the City of Sedona, along with a two-year fundraising effort, we now have the funds to begin construction but we do not have sufficient funds to open the house. Before we can open the doors for residents, we're asking for financial donations for furnishings, appliances, landscaping, security system, and operating funds.Because Hope House is not yet open, some families are currently spending the cold nights outdoors. As we have previous winters, we have been able to put some of these families up in hotel rooms on the worst nights. When we hear about families that need this care, we are always scrambling to find money and housing. To better address this situation as it arises, we have decided to start the Hope House Emergency Shelter Fund. We are asking businesses, community groups, individuals and other organizations to please consider contributing to this fund.
Please support us in providing safety, security, and a better future for Sedona's most vulnerable children. You can assist in this journey by sending a check to Hope House of Sedona, 54 Bowstring Drive, Sedona 86335 or donate online at www.hopehouseofsedona.org. Please specify if you would like to designate funds to the Emergency Shelter Fund, otherwise the funds will be used for the other purposes listed above. If you have any questions, please email us at hopehouseofsedona@gmail.com or call 928-852-0001. Thank you!

Give a gift that keeps on giving for a lifetime. Bwindi Community Program has a secondary student, interrupted during his first year by the Covid-19 school closure, who needs a sponsor. He will go back to finish that term in January of 2021. The relationship developed during sponsoring is amazing. Secondary school is a huge step for a rural student. Watch his maturity develop while getting to know this student, his culture and his dreams. Go to BwindiCommunityProgram.org and look at Byamukama Derick on the Children's Page. The rest of the students have recently been sponsored. Call Jan Tanis to discuss the possibilities; a team to support him, etc. The Christmas spirit lives in these children!

Happy Thanksgiving to all who have supported Bwindi Community Program over the years. This is a crazy year, but one in which we have much to be thankful for. The graduation candidates are back in school in Uganda. This test of in-person learning with all the WHO precautions is proving to be safe. It is a group of 103 at Bishop Comboni secondary school vs full enrollment of 650. The students will be able to graduate; a few months late, but it is safe, so far. We expect the full student body to be back in school in 2021 if current conditions hold. Hooray!!! If this goes well, more students will also return to school. It is a safety-minded, phased, re-opening and BCP hopes it goes well. The need for donations to the Children's Aid Fund just became more acute. If a sponsor is no longer able to help, this is the fund that will keep a student in school until new support is found. Uganda school children are still unable to attend classes. The rural students of high school age or younger, are in an environment without internet and do not have computers. They will be in dire need of support when the pandemic has been controlled sufficiently to allow schools to again function. Bwindi Community Program Children's Aid Fund will be here for them. Please contribute to allow BCP to cover every student, if a sponsor is now unable to help. The economic impact of Covid-19 must not be allowed to stop education! For help with a donation call Jan Tanis at 928-204-1135 or donate online at BwndiCommunityProgram.org.

See all wishes from Crossing Worlds Hopi Projects
Description
A concerned group from the Hopi village of Shungopavi see the coronavirus is spreading fast and are concerned about the safety of people in their village. There are 61 active cases in Shungopavi (as of 7-1-20)."We are reaching out for supplies that will sustain life and the health of our people. We want to have all the necessities they need on hand so we can secure the village and do our best to kill the virus in our village. The Coalition Against Human Trafficking-NAZ warns parents that children are at higher risk of being sex trafficked during Covid-19 due to more time spent on Social Media. One of our outreach programs, JUST.MEN.ARIZONA, founded by Nick Lembo of Shared Hope, meets one evening a month, in Sedona, with law officials to help stop Sex Trafficking. JUST.MEN.ARIZONA secretly communicates with 'buyers' who respond to fake ads for sex with a child. We discourage them from this action. We need more men to volunteer.
