Members and Volunteers needed

nopic

Description

The Coalition Against Human Trafficking-NAZ is committed to raising awareness, distributing resources, training, and forming partnerships, to fight sex trafficking. In March, we met with Dr. Andrea Borchers of NAU Nursing Program with four students. As part of their public health outreach project, they created an informative flyer, placed in To-Go bags in different restaurants and studied hospital policies regarding nurses to report if they suspect sex trafficking. CAHT needs more members to help educate schools, medical and lodging facilities. www.caht-naz.org or Email CAHT.NAZ@gmail.com or Call Sharleen at 520-271-3568

When Uganda has become comfortable with the prospect of allowing public transportation to resume, schools will reopen. Bwindi Community Program needs to be ready to assist our sponsored students. There will be sponsors who cannot continue to support their education. The Children's Aid Fund will be there to allow us to react to each crisis as it occurs and guarantee the continuity of the educations of 75 primary, secondary, vocational and university students. There is nothing more critical to their futures! You can ease the worry and lend a hand with a donation of any size; online at BwindiCommunityProgram or by check to Bwindi Community Program at 20 Soldiers Trail, Sedona, AZ 86336. Uganda has done a wonderful job of containing the spread of the virus. However, students are still waiting to return to school - with the universities opening last. Bwindi Community Program is anticipating a need for subsidies for many who wait for their academic life to resume. Students are studying online in the upper levels of education, but the needs mount. The Children's Aid Fund is our tool to help in this situation. Please donate any amount that you choose. It will be put to good use as the stories begin to arrive of needs that cannot be met. Bottles and Formula Needed for Tiny Orphaned Kittens

See all wishes from Verde Valley Humane Society

Description

A kitten's best chance for survival is with mom, not in a shelter. We do not have the resources to care for kittens without a mother, who may need to be bottle-fed and haven't built up their immunity.

But we also don't want to turn away people who find a kitten and want to help. So we're putting together some supplies and instructions to help those people care for the kittens at home until they are big enough to eat on their own, get spayed/neutered and if necessary, come back to us for adoption.

The problem - we're quickly running out of kitten bottles and milk replacement. If you can help, we are in need of KMR or PetLac brand liquid milk replacement (small packs preferred), and bottles designed specifically for kittens (PetAg is one brand - there may be others). They may be hard to find locally, but PetSense or Tractor Supply in Cottonwood or PetSmart in Sedona may have them. You can also shop online at Chewy, Amazon, or even Amazon.

Donations can be dropped of at VVHS during regular business hours or shipped to Verde Valley Humane Society at 1520 W. Mingus, Cottonwood, AZ 86326. Thank you!

The children will not return to Uganda schools until pubic transportation can be allowed to function. Hopefully, this will be soon since the country has done a very good job of locking down and containing the spread of the disease. The Children's Aid Fund will be the tool to help those whose sponsors are no longer able to provide their support. Please help us make this Fund sufficient to handle the crisis. A simple request for peanut butter

See all wishes from Verde Valley Humane Society

Description

Peanut butter. It's a small thing that means a lot to a bored dog waiting to be adopted. "Kong time" when our staff and volunteers distribute Kongs stuffed with peanut butter is the best time of day for our dogs. They get a snack, a chew toy, playtime and quiet time all rolled into one and they so look forward to it. Sadly, We've run out of peanut butter, though, and a Kong just isn't the same without it (we tried!). If you can help, we need smooth peanut butter - any brand, but NOT chunky and NOT sugar free. We are open if you would like to drop some off (keep social distancing in mind and wear a mask if possible), or order online (we'll post a suggested link in the comments) and have it sent to VVHS, 1520 W. Ten Reasons to Volunteer with Verde Valley Caregivers

See all wishes from Verde Valley Caregivers

Description

Discussions with current volunteers have revealed ten reasons why folks should volunteer to help their elderly or disabled neighbors as part of the Verde Valley Caregivers.
Reason #1: Make a Difference in Your Community
VVCC is a network of people helping neighbors. As our population ages, every year there is an increasing need for assistance to elderly who want to stay in their own homes. At some point in time, most can no longer drive themselves. Without a convenient transit system, getting to medical appointments and running basic errands, such as grocery shopping, can be impossible.
VVCC fills this gap by providing over 2,200 older adults and adults with disabilities with transportation, shopping assistance, friendly visits, handyperson help and other services to help them stay in their own homes. Volunteer, John Wozniak, shares the importance of this goal to him. “Anything to help people stay in their own homes. It breaks my heart to see people sitting around in care centers.” He says, “neighbors are very gracious and very grateful.” He finds the work “very fulfilling”.

Piano Accompaniment

Running River School is looking for piano accompaniment for our Eurythmy block on February 10-13 and 18-21 (exact times of day still to be determined). We would be happy to have one accompanist if they have the availability for all of the days/hours we need; we are also open to a few people who only have a few hours to contribute.

Please contact Eddie Simmons at 928-362-2659 or Lupita Pollock at 928-301-3232 (please leave a message if no answer).

Eurythmy is an expressive movement art originated by Rudolf Steiner in conjunction with Marie von Sivers in the early 20th century. Primarily a performance art, it is also used in education, especially in Waldorf schools for therapeutic purposes. The word Eurythmy stems from Greek roots meaning beautiful or harmonious rhythm.

Help ensure the most vulnerable in our society have a safe place to go when they need it.

See all wishes from Verde Valley Humane Society

Description

At Verde Valley Humane Society, we are committed to upholding a high standard of care for every animal at our shelter and to make every effort to give each animal a forever home. That means the average time the animals are cared for at the shelter is longer than before and the costs of care are higher. With veterinary costs continuing to rise, and more animals coming in every day, your donations are more critical than even before.

Your gift today can help ensure the most vulnerable in our society - the ill and injured, the lost, the unwanted, and the orphans - always have a safe place to go when they need it. Pet Fosters Needed

See all wishes from Verde Valley Humane Society

Description

Fostering a pet is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. When you foster, you agree to take a homeless dog, cat, puppy or kitten into your home and give him or her love, care and attention, either for a predetermined period of time to recover from injury or illness or to grow old enough for adoption. The length of time a foster pet may stay in your home varies with the animal’s situation.

By taking an animal in need temporarily into your home you’re freeing up a spot so VVHS can take in another dog or cat in need; giving your foster pet the time he needs to be ready for adoption; helping VVHS learn more about the pet so he or she will end up in the best home possible; and socializing the dog or cat to a home environment, other pets and different types of people.

To be a successful foster parent, you will need a compassionate nature, the cooperation of your family or roommates, flexibility, and some knowledge of animal behavior.

For more information about fostering a pet for Verde Valley Humane Society, call 928-634-PETS, email mclark@verdevalleyhumanesociety.org, or visit https://verdevalleyhumanesociety.org/foster/

Funding for a Spay/Neuter and Medical Clinic /Seeking Veterinarian

Description

LOOKING FOR A VETERINARIAN AND FUNDING FOR ANIMAL WELFARE SPAY/NEUTER MEDICAL CLINIC IN NORTHERN ARIZONA (VERDE VALLEY)

Giving of ourselves: our time, love and compassion to the animals in need is what is most important to us at Red Rose Inspiration For Animals as we have been providing free services to felines and canines in this community for over 10 years now. However, we are limited to the amount of animals we are able to service?

We have been instrumental in the Verde Valley. Focused heavily in Camp Verde, Rimrock, Cottonwood and Cornville.

We are unique as 501c3 in animal welfare as we don’t have a facility and our focus is not taking in animals and adopting them out. Although we have done it in the past and on occasion we will still do it but our specialty is providing se
rvices in animal welfare.

With all the animal organizations in the Verde Valley we try to be particular and service the community in which we live on a different level as it wouldn’t do the animals any good if we all did the same thing. Fortunately, the one common goal we all have is to spay and neuter and make a difference in the over pet population as that is the most important goal for all of us universally. That is what we at Red Rose believe makes the biggest impact within our community.

TNR (Trap Neuter Return for Feral Cats) is a service we have been providing regularly since 2012. We have compassionate, experienced volunteers who set the traps and transport these kittens/cats to the vet and then return and release them back to their environment. Young kittens caught early enough are vaccinated, treated medically, altered and adopted out an experience that is life changing obviously for the better.

At Red Rose we assist homeless animals with emergency medical care. All animals including feral cats involved with Red Rose are treated for any medical conditions before being released. When pet owners on a
fixed income find themselves experiencing an emergency situation with their companion animal they are not always prepared to even cover the cost of an exam let alone medication and testing. With our help many pet owners have mentioned “they were able to keep their pet instead of having to give them up due to the cost and treatment.”

Red Rose has assisted hundreds of pet owners (especially seniors) in dire need so that they don’t further delay the animal having to suffer due to financial challenges.

We also assist with free spay and neuter services of felines and canines. Not only assisting pet owners who can’t afford the low cost spay neuter clinics in our community but also homeless animals that are either trapped or found as strays by kind compassionate people that are struggling financially and can’t take on the necessary veterinarian cost. Before moving any animal into the next phase we always encourage individuals to spay and neuter and offer financial assistance when they are in need. Spaying and neutering litters of kittens and puppies and the adult dogs that contributed to their existence whenever possible.

Red Rose has reached an obstacle in animal welfare as we currently NEED more working veterinarian partners or our own veterinarian as we are having to send some animals needing services to Flagstaff and Prescott. We feel if we had our own veterinarian and clinic we could do more.

We need more veterinarians willing to provide rescue pricing as we have pet owners wanting and desperately needing the services for their pets, not to mention the homeless animals.

The unfortunate part is many of the veterinarians in the Verde Valley are not willing to provide discounted services and that is a real obstacle for us because pet owners that are financially challenged needing emergency services have practically nowhere to turn if we don't have veterinarians willing to assist us. Many of the people we often assist don’t have credit cards and many try to apply for Care Credit at the veterinarian’s office only to be denied. Then what? Their animal is not serviced and is left to suffer. This has and continues to happen quite often.

Another problem is many veterinarians will not provide services to feral felines so they will not assist us with our TNR program either. We have had to cut back drastically in the last 24 months on the services because of this situation. You are probably wondering have we reached out to all the additional veterinarians in the area……the answer is yes and multiple times, with no luck. Thankfully the Village Vet Clinic in the Village of Oak Creek and Danza Del Sol has been helping us out but our need is greater than the amount of animals they can possibly see. .

Animals left to continue to reproduce often wind up abused, injured, or neglected as shelters across the country are filled with animals that are euthanized daily due to over pet population as we simply can’t adopt our way out of this problem.

Perhaps we will be fortunate to find a generous, retired, veterinarian willing to volunteer their time to helping our mission or we will be fortunate to open a clinic in the future. We encourage our supporters to help us find a veterinarian either a volunteer or a new professional to the area or one that is contracted.

When you support Red Rose 100% of the proceeds from our fundraising efforts from the Red Rose Thriftique, Red Rose Barkin Basement and our Red Rose Art Shows go to the overall mission of Red Rose Inspiration For Animals. 100% of a monetary donor’s donation goes directly to assisting the animals. No administrative cost or salaries as we are a small, volunteer based organization making a huge difference in the lives of animals throughout the Verde Valley.

On our 990 throughout the years we have a 99.98 percent rating for public support which we are quite proud of, as with us it’s all about servicing the animals. We are asking for anyone passionate about our mission to help us continue the work we do. We are most grateful for all we have accomplished through the years and continue to accomplish. Thank you for sharing and supporting us.

Two Students in Need

Description

Bwindi Community Program is asking for help with sponsorships for students who have lost sponsors recently. Situations change, death interrupts the plans, etc. of sponsors who have taken students many years toward a bright future. There currently is a student in Midwifery school for whom there is no support for her final two years. A secondary student needs funds for her last two years in high school. Unlike sponsors who take on a student for up to ten years, these are short term needs. These students are close to the end of their studies. Help at this point is key to their futures. SW rural Uganda is poverty stricken and these students are almost independent. Help them to complete their studies. Visit BwindiCommunityProgram.org "The Children" page for one student's story or call Jan Tanis at 928-204-1135 for more information on either student. You can make a terrific difference!

Neighborhood Coordinators

Description

Verde Valley Food Project is looking for more Neighborhood Coordinators. It’s amazingly simple to be a Neighborhood Coordinator. Neighborhood Coordinators organize a small group of neighbors to be Food Donors. Each donor gets a reusable green bag to store food in. Every two months NC's pick up their donors full bags and leave an empty one for next time. On collection day, NC's pick up their donors bags and bring all the bags to a drop-off point at the Safeway/ReMax parking lot in West Sedona, where volunteers receive and sort it the food.
Being a Neighborhood Coordinator takes only an hour or two every other a month! You might need to put a little more time in at the beginning, when you’re building your neighborhood. But it’s a surprisingly small time commitment, considering how big a difference you’ll be making.
That’s it. As you meet more neighbors and other NCs, your sense of community will grow, and it will add as much to your life as you will be adding to others’ lives. It’s something to look forward to.

Wishing for Respite Volunteers

See all wishes from Verde Valley Caregivers

Description

Volunteer companions provide company and assistance to neighbors while family caregivers take a much-needed break. The volunteer companions are not expected to provide nursing care or personal hygiene assistance.
A current volunteer, Tony Isolda, learned about VVCC respite care when his wife was very ill. She got so much out of the visits that when she passed away, he decided he would like to give the gift of respite to others. In 2016 he volunteered with VVCC as a respite care giver.
When he goes to meet with a neighbor, he often brings some kind of treat. He said, “They’re lonely and want to talk.” One person he cares for, Donald, is 95. When Tony visits Donald they play games, read and have an enjoyable time. It gives Tony a good feeling about how his visits lift other’s spirits. From experience Tony says, “Those visits are better than a million bucks to a neighbor.”
To volunteer call (928) 204-1238 or email the Verde Valley Caregivers at operations@vvcaregivers.org. Tony is willing to talk to anyone who is interested in volunteering to answer questions about what it is like.

The Entire E-Library will be furnished by the end of August!

See all wishes from Bwindi Community Program

Description

Thanks to everyone who has helped create this wonderful study and research space on a rural campus in SW Uganda. The community and the 650 students who board at Bishop Comboni Secondary School are SO appreciative. The first phase; seating for 64 with 10 computers and books on the shelves, will be enlarged to allow 157 to study here soon. When the second phase of the furnishings arrive, we need to pay the manufacturer the balance owed of $1,992. It is a tiny fraction of the investment to date. It is so close to being installed. A donation now will help with the final bill for the furniture. Please contact Jan Tanis to pay by check or go to http//:BwindiCommunityProgram.org and the "Other Donations" page will guide you through payment online. We will also add more computers over time. This is a dream-come-true for this rural school! Thank you!

Enrich Your Life -- Volunteer

See all wishes from Verde Valley Caregivers

Description

Verde Valley Caregivers wishes to enrich your life. Here is an example from one of our volunteers:
Hank Culbertson joined VVCC as a volunteer driver in June 2014. After reading an article in the paper about VVCC he decided that transporting “neighbors” was his calling. Hank enjoys getting to know the neighbors and hearing their life stories. He particularly likes the long trips and frequently travels from Verde Valley communities to Flagstaff. He’s taken neighbors as far as Phoenix. The work also gives him the opportunity to do something for somebody else. Hank says, “I want to drive for Caregivers as long as I can.”
VVCC needs more volunteer drivers and volunteers to make friendly visits and respite assistance. Volunteers decide when, where and how often they wish to volunteer. Visit https://vvcaregivers.org/volunteer-opportunities or call (928) 204-1238 to enrich your life and others, too.

Hooray to all of you who have helped get us SO close. In six weeks, the school will be asked for $1,992 to pay for the balance of the order. The students will have an entire E-Library full of tables and chairs for their study time and computer research. Please help us in the final step. Bwindi Community Program has a history with its sponsors, sometimes as long as ten years. It is a solid relationship, but sometimes life interferes. Sponsors face death, a financial crisis, many unforeseeable events. The Children's Aid Fund covers the unforeseen; from a sponsor's perspective or from the a student's. Faced with sudden illness, etc., BCP needs a Fund to rely upon to help a child, without having to search for the sponsor. For all these events, we try to build up the Children's Aid Fund. To have it ready in an emergency is priceless. Talk to Jim or Jan Tanis at 928-204-1135 to donate to this worthy Fund. Or go online to BwindiCommunityProgram.org - "Other Donations Page" to help. Volunteer Historian Needed

See all wishes from Keep Sedona Beautiful

Description

Historian Archivist Needed

KSB is fast approaching it’s 50th year of service to the greater Sedona area. In 2021 we will celebrate our golden anniversary. In order to organize and eventually share our incredible story through the decades, we are looking for a volunteer to review our history books and recommend significant events that are best to publicize. The plan is to submit short articles to the media each month of 2021, arranged in chronological order. You would have guidance and assistance from the KSB office staff and from various Trustees, including the President.

The approximate starting time for this effort will be mid-2019. Work could be accomplished principally at home. If you’re interested in this opportunity, please contact Jan Wind at 928-284-4938 or email us at ksb@keepsedonabeautiful.org to arrange for an in-depth discussion of this initiative.

Upscale Thrift Store Needs Volunteers for Sales Floor in the Village of Oak Creek

Description

We are looking for Volunteers who love retail and love making a difference in animal welfare throughout our community.

Red Rose Inspiration For Animals is a local 501c3 nonprofit that supports animal welfare since 2009. The shops help the non-profit generate revenue for the various long term existing animal related programs, future rehabilitation center as well as potential veterinary spay and neuter clinic.

In 2014 the vision for the Red Rose Thriftique a unique thrift store and artist boutique originated from the art shows we organize exclusively in West Sedona. Wanting to provide an upscale, unique, quality, inexpensive, one of a kind shopping experience for visitors as well as locals offering guilt free shopping for a cause. In 2018 the Thriftique was voted “Best Boutique” by the Reader’s Choice Awards.

Just recently in 2019 the expansion to the Red Rose Barkin Basement opened offering the organization additional space for furniture, wall art, home décor, and more. Both thrift stores are located in the Bell Rock Plaza in Village of Oak Creek.

Red Rose helps pet owners spay and neuter animal companions for free, provides emergency medical services for homeless felines and canines and often assists pet owners on a fixed income to get their animal the veterinary care they desperately need. The focus is reducing the over pet population; preventing felines and canines from potentially being injured, abused or neglected.

Flexible days and hours . Please inquire within the store.

Thank you for considering Red Rose

Rural SW Uganda has a new E-Library on the campus of Bishop Comboni Secondary School. Phase I is a huge success; students, faculty and the community are utilizing the space. It has seating for 64, 10 Dell Mini Tower computers for research, plus has about 1/3 of the desired textbooks and research books on the shelves. The list of desired text books and research books is still very long and very expensive for this rural Uganda school. You can help by donating through the website: bwindicommunityprogram.org. or by calling Jim or Jan Tanis at 928-204-1135 to see how you can participate in this wonderful endeavor. These fortunate students are waiting for the next delivery of books with big smiles!
