Donation of Items for Fundraiser Garage Sale

See all wishes from Running River School

Description

Hello Sedona Community of Givers!

It's that time of year again when Running River School starts collecting for our annual garage sale fundraiser. We are seeking any type of typical garage sale item in good condition through the end of May. Here's the best part, WE PICK UP! You don't even have to leave home to get it to us!

We do realize that most people have a favorite thrift shop they support, but we are hoping some of you are open to spreading the love around, just for a short time. It is only a coupe of months that we collect, so your favorite shop can still be supported the rest of the year!

Thank you for considering us! Last year, with the help of the community, we were able to raise around $7000, which went directly to overhead such as rent, utilities and teacher salaries. It may not seem like much to some, but it makes all the difference to us!

Sending you gratitude for all you do for your community. All organizations on this site could not operate without your generosity!

SNAP Appointment Setting Volunteer

See all wishes from Yavapai Food Council

Description

At the Yavapai Food Council we offer assistance with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) application. SNAP was formerly known as Food Stamps. The program allows local individuals in the Verde Valley and within the county to receive assistance applying for necessary benefits for themselves and their families. Our program breaks down barriers to applying for benefits including: transportation difficulties, lack of necessary technological equipment, and confusion over eligibility standards.

Currently we are working on increasing our visibility within the Verde Valley. However, our small staff is having difficulty reaching the clients who could use our services. In order to reach these clients we are looking for volunteers who would be willing to go out into the community once a month for 2 hours to set up appointments in our office or satellite location.

Volunteers should have a patient communication style, reliable transportation, as well as be comfortable speaking with diverse populations. Volunteers who are bilingual or have prior SNAP knowledge are preferred but not required.

Please contact SNAP Program Coordinator, Ariel Thomas-Urlik, at (928) 254-8159 or at snapcoordinator@yavapaifoodcouncil.org for more information.

Vehicle for Kelsea

See all wishes from FRAANK

Description

Kelsea is a 16-year old local Verde Valley girl that suffers from Cystic Fibrosis. This disease is a chronic lung disease that causes other complications in the body as it progresses. Kelsea is now an insulin diabetic and has recently been diagnosed with end stage liver disease. A liver transplant will be in her near future. The family endures heavy medical bills and expenses related to traveling to and from Phoenix and the Children’s L.A. transplant center in California.

Although she will always live with this chronic disease she is eager to live for the moment and does so by working hard and hoping to attend college someday. She is carrying an extra load in high school in an attempt to graduate early. She also works part time and needs a reliable car to transport her to and fro’. Her working family of four share 2 cars which is logistically challenging. Her brother is also college bound and the strain of helping both children realize their ambition is a financial burden for Kelsea's parents and thus weighs heavily on this ambitious young lady.

Kelsea knows how to persevere through pain and hospitalization and does so without complaining or blaming. “My parents are the most wonderful people in the world and we love each other to death but I always feel like I’m a burden to them.” At this time a reliable vehicle to get her to and from work would help her feel better about that. And Kelsea deserves to feel better.

If you wish to see a picture of Kelsea you may do so by visiting the FRAANK website (www.fraank.org) and clicking on the Beneficiaries tab. The FRAANK organization has generously donated $1000 to help Kelsea buy a car. But its president and founder Romano Scaturro has expressed his concern that $1000 might not be enough to buy Kelsea a decent reliable car.

Rubbermaid Bins/Adult Clothing

See all wishes from Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center

Description

We had an instance once at our sister Susan J. Rheem Center when the participants went fishing at Lynx Lake, got caught in the first monsoon of the season, and got drenched! Having a change of clothes on hand is a good thing! Many of the adults who come to the Center bring personal items for "just in case", such as a change of clothes, adult briefs, etc. Bins need to have a lid, and preferred size is shoebox. If you have clothing for men or women, we could use some of that as well. Men's or Women's dress or sweat pants are most needed. Contact Shelley Fields at 928.649.0788

Scholarship Funds for Outings

Our participants love all of the activities and meals here at the Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center, but they also love going on our weekly outings. We schedule a variety of outings each month. A couple are free, but our participants love going to museums and restaurants, as well. Not all of our participants or their families have the means to go on these outings, so we are trying to build a scholarship fund specifically for these special times. Description

As we grow in volunteers, board members, and staff persons we find those in our office are have a need for preparing meals. A microwave would help tremendously for the food preparation for all community members who work or meet in our office. It is for this reason that we are reaching out to the community for a donation of a microwave.

Pulse Oximeter/Nerf Basketball

See all wishes from Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center

Description

Yes, these needs are extremely diverse! These two needs exemplify our daily life here at the Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center. We are a medical day center where the participants are overseen by a nurse, medications are given as needed, and each participant has a individualized plan of care. Once a month the nurse takes the vitals on each participant in order to track their basic health and report changes to their physician as warranted. To that end, our pulse oximeter, donated by the Sedona Sunrise Center when we transitioned here to Cottonwood, is on the blink. If you can donate this item, found at your local pharmacy, it would be used often and greatly appreciated! The other item we need is a nerf basketball hoop/ball. We have younger participants that enjoy active games, and this game is missing from our repertoire. Participants often come to our Center because their caregivers need respite time, but they come back because they have fun! Please call Shelley Fields at 928.649.0788 or come to 636 N. Main St. in Cottonwood to drop off your donation and tour our Center Monday through Friday 8-4.

Felt Board for Spanish Lessons

Hello Sedona Wish List Followers!

Our little ones are beginning their Spanish language journey this year, and are absolutely loving it! One item we are missing is a felt board for interactive activities. Our teacher will be making the pieces specific to each language project, but something to put them on would be most helpful! Handmade would also be fine. Maybe you have one lying around from when your kiddos were younger?

Kitchen Aide Mixer and/or Electric Burner

See all wishes from Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Center

Description

Our chef cooks amazing food for our participants breakfast, lunch, and snack. Everything is made right here in our kitchen. When we first opened in March, we had received many items from the Sedona Sunrise Center. However, we are still in need of some items, as our Center is serving more and more clients every day! We need a Kitchen Aid mixer, preferably a commercial size (though we will happily take a standard home one as well), and an electric burner. Twice a month our chef performs a demonstration for our participants in an activity room, and the burner would help the entire group gathered around to see the action, rather than trying to view the stove from a back seat.

Thank you for supporting our wonderful participants and their families! We provide a welcome respite for caregivers, and these items will continue to ensure special programming for each individual involved. Please contact Shelley Fields at 928.649.0788.

Gymnastics Supplies

Our little ones have started their gymnastics program and are loving it! We are still in need of a few items:

1. Bonded Foam Gymnastics Mat - 4' x 8' x 2" ($145)
2. Standard Folding Incline Mat 72"x30"x12" ($250)
3. Supplies for Aerial Silk intsruction: $90

Let's get these kids moving their bodies! Aside from the fun, did you know ....

- Kids who exercise are more likely to keep exercising as an adult.
- Exercise helps kids achieve and maintain a healthy body weight.
- Regular physical activity helps build and maintain strong, healthy muscles, bones and joints.
- Exercise aids in the development of important interpersonal skills—this is especially true for participation in team sports.
- Exercise improves the quantity and quality of sleep.
- Research shows that exercise promotes improved school attendance and enhances academic performance.
- Kids who exercise have greater self-esteem and better self-images.
- Participating in regular physical activity prevents or delays the development of many chronic diseases (e.g., heart disease, diabetes, obesity, hypertension) and promotes health.
- Children who are active report fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression and a better overall mood.
- Exercise helps improve motor coordination and enhances the development of various motor performance skills.

Items for Gymnastics Class

See all wishes from Running River School

Description

Running River School has hired an amazing assistant for our upcoming school year who has extensive training in gymnastics and the circus arts. We want to utilize her skills to enhance our "whole body" curriculum (head, heart and hands). We are in need of a few items to use for instruction.

1. Small exercise-type trampoline in great condition
2. Portable folding gym mat like this: http://www.orbring.com/products/bonded-foam-gymnastics-mat-4-x-8-x-2-blue-red.html
3. Incline mat like this: http://www.orbring.com/products/standard-folding-incline-mat-72x30x12.html
4. $90 to buy the supplies needed for "aerial silks"

You may sometimes ask yourself why a private school needs funding. I have the answer for you! Did you know that the vast majority of small private schools across the country hardly ever can cover their costs by tuition alone? This is also the case for us!

Your next question might be, why do private schools operate this way? The answer to this one, is also very simple. If we were to charge a tuition that would guarantee covering all costs nobody could afford to go! Our reasonable tuition was set in the hopes of making our alternative educational choice available to as many as possible. We also have one of the lowest tuition costs in the country for what we are offering. Which, in turn, requires us to reach out to the community for donations and support for our fundraising efforts. Thank you for considering us!

BACKPACKS nEEDED!

See all wishes from Yavapai Food Council

Description

BACKPACKS Needed for West Sedona School Backpack program - This fall, Yavapai Food Council, Sedona Community Food Bank, YMCA, Christ Lutheran Church, Jewish Community of Sedona & the Verde Valley, and United Methodist Church will be expanding the Weekend Backpacks for Kids program at West Sedona School to reach all student qualifying for free or reduced meals. Over the last 5 years, the program has provided much needed weekend food for 20 to 30 students each week. A recent study by Harvey Grady with Cornucopia Community Advocates titled Free/Reduced Cost School Meals in Yavapai County - 2013 identified 62.6% of the students a West Sedona (265) now qualify for government subsidized free or reduced meals. In an effort to reach as many of the students that qualifying as possible, this program will now be open to all 265 with parent approval. A letter will sent home with the students early in the school year asking that parents return the letter by the deadline if they would like their child to receive free or reduced meals. Although the school is limited to the number of backpacks that can be distributed on site because of space and resources, the remaining backpacks will be available on distribution day across the street at the Sedona YMCA.

We currently have 30 backpacks available for this program and ask the community to consider donating new or gently used full-size backpacks for the expansion of this program. We anticipate needing an additional 125 or more backpacks at the beginning of the year. Your contribution of backpacks will ensure that Yavapai Food Council funding is used to supplement food purchases, rather than backpacks. A cash donation of $1,500 ear-marked for the West Sedona Backpack program would also allow Yavapai Food Council to purchase 200 quality backpacks through a wholesale distributor at cost.

For additional information on this an other local hunger programs, please email Amy Aossey (Executive Director) at: Amy@YavapaiFoodCouncil.org or call 928-254-8172

Bilingual Theatre Project

See all wishes from Red Earth Theatre

Description

Red Earth Theatre is thrilled to begin our long hoped for Bilingual Theatre Project to the Verde Valley. This 8 month process begins with bringing theatre workshops to older teens and adults in the area and culminates in creating a brand new performance piece to tour in Northern AZ. A book and video of the live show will also be made available.

'Performing Latino Life' intends to • validate the adult Latino experience in Northern AZ • empower that population to engage in the civic discourse of their community • develop a confident, skillful pool of Latino performers, practitioners and attendees for the performing arts • build a collaborative bridge between the majority and Latino cultures via the arts.

Working in partnership with the Sedona Arts Center we have a broad range of supporters from Flagstaff to Sedona and Cottonwood. Right now we need tax deductible contributions to pay the Program Manager and Workshop Facilitators as we begin workshops (July 7!) and continue to develop and seek funding for the project.

Please consider how you and/or your business can be a major supporter of this valuable pilot project with potential to make a real difference in the lives of individuals and in the social-economic life of Northern AZ.

Description

The aroma of fresh-baked goodies fills our large (bowling alley-sized!) activity room, almost matching the joy filling each participant's heart as they enjoy something they have made. This could happen and needs to happen more often, but we need utensils, baking supplies, etc. Mixing bowls, spoons, spatulas, scrapers, measuring cups and spoons, muffin tins, bread tins, cake pans, cookie sheets, hot mitts; you name it in the kitchen, we need it! We have a stove and a sink, and that is it! Contact Shelley at 928.679.0788 to donate.

Rubbermaid Bins

We had an instance once at our sister Susan J. Rheem Center when the participants went fishing at Lynx Lake, got caught in the first monsoon of the season, and got drenched! Having a change of clothes on hand is a good thing! Many of the adults who come to the Center bring personal items for "just in case", such as a change of clothes, adult briefs, etc. Bins need to have a lid, and preferred size is shoebox. Foster Homes

See all wishes from Golden Bone Rescue and Rehab

Description

Golden Bone continues to seek foster homes for dogs. Golden Bone does not have a facility, so all of our dogs are tended through foster care. We provide food, advice, and medical care, while approved fosters provide space, safety, and love. Happily, Alice, Meemee, and Gracie have found foster homes for now. We still need one with a secure and high fence for Mary Jane.
Mary Jane is a 66-pound hound mix who absolutely loves to play with dogs; however, she needs a polite and gentle introduction with other big dogs, and time to get to know them first. Once she is comfortable, her true doggie play style is very fast, and a bit on the alpha side.

Foster Homes Desperately Needed

See all wishes from Golden Bone Rescue and Rehab

Description

Golden Bone is desperately seeking foster homes for dogs. At the top of our list right now are homes for the following: Alice is a 14-16 week-old female Lab mix who was discovered locked in a closet when a caretaker visited one of her clients. She is a lively, bubbly, curious little girl. She is very social with both people and dogs.
MeeMee is a young, well-behaved, house trained and very sweet pregnant Shih Tzu. She needs an experienced foster home able to keep her and her babies through weaning, which will be about eight weeks. Mama dog will be spayed and returned to owner, and puppies will be adopted through Golden Bone's procedure.
Gracie, a Greyhound/Lab mix, is shy at first but warms up quickly to people and other dogs she does not know. She loves to walk on the leash. She is good around kids and dogs.
Mary Jane is a 66-pound hound mix who absolutely loves to play with dogs; however, she needs a polite and gentle introduction with other big dogs, and time to get to know them first. Once she is comfortable, her true doggie play style is very fast, and a bit on the alpha side.

Funds for treatment

See all wishes from Golden Bone Rescue and Rehab

Description

Golden Bone Rescue is working to raise several hundred dollars for Emma, a Bernese Mountain dog with hip dysplasia. Treatment plans include a course of adequan which will allow us to postpone surgery until we can strengthen her back and legs. The first month will consist of loading her up once a week with the shots which cost around $50, then taper off to a monthly shot until we can evaluate for surgery. Without treatment she will not have the ability to bear weight on her back legs in 18 months to 2 years. We have a fantastic rate for the surgery of $400 but we want to get her strong and sturdy first.

See all wishes from Golden Bone Rescue and Rehab

Description

Golden Bone Rescue will be participating in the 2nd Rummage For Rescue hosted by Red Rose Inspiration. The event takes place at the Olde Sedona Bar and Grill on April 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you have some rummage-type items you’d like to clear out of your home, please consider donating them to us to help us raise money for our foster dogs! We’ll arrange for pick-up and we’ll consider most anything that is salable, clean, and in working order. From past experience, we’ve learned we don’t need used clothing and shoes (unused is great), electronics, vases, and Christmas things.

Graphic Design and Website Services

See all wishes from Running River School

Description

We have a great need for a professional graphic designer and/or website designer. We do have a working website that we have created for ourselves but would someday like to have a more comprehensive, optimized and highly professional site that can convey the kind of quality we represent as an educational institution. We also currently do our own design, which works out nicely for us, but we are interested in having a full suite designed that is a cohesive representation of who we are.

PR/Marketing

See all wishes from Running River School

Description

We are looking for a professional in the PR and Marketing field who is interested in supporting our educational endeavor. Our needs in this area are threefold: We need to reach parents in our area, parents coming into Sedona and potential donors. Right now our time and limited funding are focused on the parents of our community. Our number one priority is growing the school, so it makes sense for us to put our focus into the recruitment of potential students. But our outreach can't stop there!

Real Estate Services Needed

See all wishes from Running River School

Description

We don't need just any realtor, we need a realtor who also believes in what we are doing. One of our core beliefs is that to change the world, our children need to be raised and educated in a more holistic way than ever before. Our immediate need is an affordable (or even better, donated) space to use temporarily. We are small, so don't need much space but we do need outdoor, as well as indoor space. Our grand vision includes the donation, or deeply discounted purchase price, of acreage.

Kongs

See all wishes from Humane Society of Sedona

Description

KONGs are wonderful behavioral enrichment toys for our pups (and sometimes even the kitties!). It helps keep our dogs busy and engaged while in their kennels, and helps calm them down by encouraging chewing at night. KONG toys are also very durable.

KONG toys are widely used as therapy for prevention of boredom, separation anxiety, and other behavioral issues. Providing food or treat-stuffed KONG toys for dogs can keep them contently busy working, and out of trouble for long periods of time.
