Help Wanted at Red Rose Inspiration For Animals

We are a very small volunteer based organization that makes a huge difference in the community by offering FREE spay and neuter services to pet owners that are financially challenged while low cost spay and neuter is barely even offered for over a year now in this community and can be costly to pet owners on a budget costing up to $100.00 per animal based on weight.

We also provide emergency vet care and help with surgeries for seniors living on a fixed income helping them get their animal companion the urgent care they need and deserve.

We have a TNR (Trap Neuter and Release Program) for ferals that we provide medical care when needed, alter and vaccinate.

We are in the process of opening a new location for our thrift store in addition to our other location. This Red Rose Barkin Basement will have furniture, linens, wall art and much more.

We need people who want to work in our retail thrift for the Red Rose Thriftique and the Red Rose Barkin Basement in the Village of Oak Creek on the sales floor

Winter Heat Support for Hopi Families

Coal is the main source of heat for Hopi families, many of whom do not have vehicles for hauling the coal from the mine which is a 2-hour drive away. Firewood is also required to ignite the coal. Hugh Hoglan is helping Hopis in need with hauling both firewood and coal in his truck and trailer he purchased for this project. Hopis provide labor and some of the gas costs, but donations are needed to purchase the firewood, help with the coal mine fees and other hauling costs. Volunteers Needed

See all wishes from Verde Valley Sanctuary

nopic

Description

The Verde Valley Sanctuary is seeking volunteers to help in providing support services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. Demand has never been higher for the Sanctuary. Volunteers are needed at both our Outreach Center (where clients who don’t need shelter can get help) as well as our 28-bed shelter. Volunteer needs include: driving clients to appointments, childcare support, beautician services, help with job and housing searches, legal assistance and more.

Volunteers are a valuable resource at the Verde Valley Sanctuary. Being a volunteer with the Verde Valley Sanctuary gives you the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those impacted by domestic violence while participating in a rewarding experience. When you volunteer, you help make our limited dollars and resources stretch farther.

Some of the ways volunteers are currently helping includes: helping around dinner time or on weekends to help with meal preparation and keeping the children occupied with reading, homework and games. Other volunteers are driving clients to medical and legal appointments, delivering donated food to clients in need, and assisting clients with job preparedness. We even have a volunteer stylist who is coming in once a month to provide haircuts to the clients and their children.

If you are interested in becoming a Client Services Volunteer please call the Volunteer Coordinator, Leslie Stevens, at (928) 634-6255 at our Outreach Center located at 601 W. Mingus Ave, in Cottonwood. Prospective volunteers must complete a volunteer application and interview followed by a volunteer orientation.

Some Books are being Purchased

See all wishes from Bwindi Community Program

Description

Thank you to all who have helped with the books needed for the new e-Library at the rural secondary school in SW Uganda. Our hopes to have some of the shelves filled for the opening of the e-Library when the students return to campus have been met. From a variety of sources (local, online, and our wider network of supporters), we have secured over $5,600 to wire to Uganda for the purchase of textbooks and research books. The students, who return to begin the 2019 school year on February 4th, will have books to hold and read. Such a luxury for the struggling rural student! Your holiday gifts to the school children will bring smiles for years. To help secure more of the needed inventory, please call Jan at 928-204-1135 or visit our website BwindiCommunityProgram.org. We have reached about 30% of the goal. Please consider adding to this community resource! The smiles will be huge.

Seeking Core Angels

See all wishes from Giving Angels

Description

The Giving Angels is seeking new members to add to the core group of volunteers. These are the individuals that assist in setting up the volunteer schedules, lead or assist the scheduling for drop off times and locations for the gift deliveries, assist in shopping for gifts and setting up the floor space for assembling the bags, social media postings, etc. There is a small core group now, but a few more people would make the work that needs to get done easier and even more fun. And this is something where you’re giving a little bit of your time for a short 2 to 3 month period out of the year.

Every year, it is such a rewarding feeling being able to help our low-income seniors. One of our Angels shared a memory:

“I remember delivering to a housing area in Cottowood a couple of years ago and an elderly gentleman came to the door with his coat, hat and gloves on. I apologized that we had caught him getting ready to go out but he responded, “oh not at all, I keep the heating way down to save on my utility bill”.”

Many of us don’t even think about having to regulate our lives like that. Unfortunately, many of our recipients do.

If you want to learn how you can help, please contact us.

The school year is under way and every week Sedona Community Food Bank, in partnership with volunteers from faith-based organizations, fills 69 bags of nutritious, easy-to-prepare, often single-serving foods. These emergency food packs go to schoolchildren at West Sedona School and Sedona Red Rock High School who would otherwise go without adequate nutrition over the weekend. We always need food donations in multiples (dozens, cases, multi-packs). Peanut-butter & cracker snack packs; 100% Juice Boxes (no "juice drinks); individual sized cereals, fruit cups, apple sauces; granola bars. Or call Cathleen at 928-204-2808 to find out what we need most!

Books for the New E-Library

See all wishes from Bwindi Community Program

Description

The new E-Library on the secondary school campus in rural Uganda is almost open. Just a bit more cleanup! We appreciate all those who helped make this possible. To complete the facility, we are raising funds for much needed textbooks and research books. The rural students cannot afford to purchase books for their courses. They use the shared texts in classrooms but must leave them behind when the class is over. In this new study space for 64 students, it will be wonderful to have appropriate texts available for them to use. The cost for books ranges from $10 to $150 each. You can provide a gift to this E-Library that will bolster education half-way around the globe. Go to BwindiCommunityProgram.org or call Jan Tanis at 928-204-1135 to donate. The smiles in Uganda will be radiating all the way to Sedona!

SedonaKind hopes the Sedona Wish List readers will remember to donate unwanted yarn, costume jewelry, and small toiletry items as they spend time inside this summer. It's a perfect time to clean that closet or cabinet! All discards become items of beauty and/or use at the hands of volunteers who knit, make charms, and fill toiletry bags for homeless agencies. New socks are also needed for the homeless. Please take the donations to ReMax in the Safeway Shopping Center at the corner of State Route 89A and Rodeo Drive. The group will create kindness benches for the use of the general public in the fall, and needs clay and natural stone tile of all colors and shapes. Call 928-592-3487 to arrange pick up or delivery.

Description

If the Sedona Wish List readers haven't already done their spring cleaning, SedonaKind would like to suggest that this would be a perfect time to clean in air conditioned comfort! Rather than tossing things, SedonaKind would like what you don't want in the way of costume jewelry, yarn, and those small hotel toiletries you've been picking up on vacation! All will be used for kindness charms, warm winter hats and lap robes, and blessing bags for homeless veterans. In addition, the coming year will see the organization creating mosaic kindness benches which will placed around the community for the use of the general public. If we can raise $5,000 and have 40 donors during the two weeks of the campaign, we qualify for permanent status online and we will be able to begin the work on the Library. This e-Library will be a community resource as well as a huge enhancement to a campus where 610 students board. Desk Top and Laptop Computers for Job Development Program

See all wishes from Steps to Recovery Homes

Description

WE BADLY NEED LAPTOP AND DESKTOP COMPUTERS

The STRH Warehouse Empowerment Project will be an expansion of our Miracles Happen Resale Store which has been in existence for two and a half years. We have secured a warehouse in which the organization can receive additional donations for resale.

The warehouse will also allow us to place 10 to 40 a year clients in various positions ranging from inventory to donation acquisition. This project will provide job skills and maximize the success rate for clients, work to break down barriers to employment, and give our clients the necessary skills that are in demand from potential employers.

STRH will provide the opportunity for clients to work in areas such as online sales, warehouse and organizing operations, EBay tasks (posting/organizing), refurbishing and/or cleaning items, and representing new items at the resale store. This will continue to raise unrestricted revenue in order to help keep our recovery homes operational and sustain the organization over time. We also hope to build the capacity to serve more individuals in need of recovery services.
