We Need Thrift Store Volunteers – Due to COVID-19 we have lost the majority of our volunteers. We do clean vigorously every day to keep the germs away. Volunteers receive 50% discount at all stores!

Shelter residents moving to independent housing shop to obtain needed clothing, furniture, and houseware items for setting up their new place of residence; at no cost to them!

Volunteers Tasks: Serve as cashier; Maintain cleanliness inside and outside of store; Receive donations & give tax donation receipts; Sort incoming donations; Decorate the store; Assist customers on sales floor; Price, tag, and steam clothing; Communicate our mission and support to VVS.

Description

Red Earth Theatre is mounting a full production (and world premier) of the new play Ungodly Behavior in April this year and needs a designated rehearsal space for 4.5 weeks from March 19th through April 19th. Ideally it is a large open space where we can also leave our props, set pieces, costumes etc and come and go as we need during that 4 weeks. We'd mostly be there at night and not on Friday and Saturdays.

Suggestion for New Years Resolutions

See all wishes from Verde Valley Caregivers

Description

Verde Valley Caregivers wish you a happy and prosperous 2022!
One way to ensure a happy new year is to volunteer! It's true. Helping others adds to your own happiness and feelings of self worth.
Consider volunteering to help our elderly neighbors, many of whom are living alone; many of whom are very poor. If you are not interested in providing transportation, there are a number of other ways to help. Walk the dog. Make friendly visits or phone calls. Help a person set up and use their smart phone or their voicemail.
See the complete list of possible options at https://vvcaregivers.org/volunteer-sign-up or phone 928-204-1238 to learn more and volunteer.

Sedona Toys for Tots Grateful for Support

Description

Sedona Toys for Tots thanks everyone who donated toys, bicycles and funds to help make this year’s Christmas special. More than 3,300 toys, stocking stuffers, books and 22 bikes were collected from local boxes and businesses, that paired with toys purchased through funds donated and toys donated by the National Toys for Tots Foundation ensured that each child received 3 toys or gifts, a stuffed animal, several stocking stuffers and a book to read, sometimes 2 books. Sedona families receive gifts through Sedona Schools, Sedona Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry and online registrations. There were enough toys to also serve families in Beaver Creek, Oak Creek Schools, Operation St. Nick serving the Verde Valley Sanctuary, Dewey Toys for Tots and over 200 children in the Hopi Nation through the Hopi School, Hopitutukaiki. Sedona Toys for Tots was able to provide a very special Christmas to over 1,100 children. Sedona is such an amazing and generous community, providing hope and joy to so many families and children.

Benefactors of Red Rock State Park is Recruiting Board Members

See all wishes from Benefactors of Red Rock State Park

Description

The mission of the Benefactors of Red Rock State Park is “To help Red Rock State Park sustain and expand its role as a vital resource for Environmental and Cultural Education, as a model of riparian habitat preservation, and as a location for environmentally sensitive recreation.”

We fulfill our mission by working under the direction of the Park Manager, funding initiatives and projects that would otherwise go unfunded. For example, we pay for transportation for groups of elementary school students to attend interactive and hands-on classes at the park. This past year, we applied for and received a $10,000 grant to replace old interpretive signs and create new ones. The signs have been fabricated and will be installed shortly. We’ve funded the installation of a new Outdoor Classroom that will be erected in December.

You can learn more about us by visiting our website at www.benefactorsrrsp.org.

If you’re interested in contributing to our efforts as a member of our Board of Directors please email chairman@benefactorsrrsp.org, and we’ll contact you.

Cotton or Blended Fabric

nopic

Description

Volunteers have been making dresses, cutting fabric and assembling "kits" for volunteers to turn into dresses. Guess what? We're almost out of fabric! Needed 100% cotton, or cotton-polyester blend fabric. One yard makes a dress. One-quarter of a yard makes pockets for one or two dresses! (White backgrounds do not make modest dresses, but will make serviceable pockets.)

President, Volunteer Coordinator and Volunteer Angels

See all wishes from Giving Angels

Description

The President makes sure all of the overall operations are running smoothly and our mission is met.
The Volunteer Coordinator recruits and coordinates the volunteers to make sure all tasks are completed as needed.
Volunteer Angels help with all the details which could include wrapping gifts, delivering gifts, securing tables, etc. We strive to accompany your strengths and abilities. If you can't do heavy lifting, that's okay, just let us know.
We all work together beautifully as a TEAM and we all help out each position, as needed.
>>> Since we only deliver gifts the end of December, we are only working October - December (for most positions). This is pretty easy... and fun!

July 4th Veterans Raffle

See all wishes from Rotary Club of Sedona Village

Description

The Rotary Club of Sedona Village wishes that everyone will participate in the Cornelius Veterans Hospital Benefit Raffle July 4 weekend. For 17 years the benefit raffle, organized by veteran John Cornelius, has contributed to the comfort and quality of life for veterans in long term care at the VA Hospital in Prescott.

This program funds a "store" where veterans can "shop" for a variety of clothing, toiletry items, phone cards, colorful blankets and other items at no cost to the vets. On their birthdays veterans receive birthday cards and flowers. There are movie nights, complete with popcorn.

Feeling lucky? This year, instead of one prize for the year, there are several chances to win a prize on the last day of the weekend. The Memorial Day drawing had 12 winners with prizes from first-class ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad to local restaurants/gift shops. Learn more and buy tickets online at https://sedonavillagerotary.org/page/veterans-project. Saturday, July 3 through Monday, July 5 tickets will be sold in person in front of Clark's Market in the Village. For those feeling more grateful than lucky, donations are also welcome.

Create a Map of Sedona Movie Locations

A FUN opportunity for someone who enjoys puzzles, photography and old Sedona movies. We continue to get requests for a map identifying movie locations from the old films made in Sedona. We have lots of photos from the movies that show recognizable places. These could be visited and viewing points noted on a map. Even 10-12 locations would be good and if up to 20 - all the better! There are a couple people who can be interviewed to help identify some spots. This might include watching a few of the oldies to see what locations were used and then be able to say what movie(s) were filmed from that vantage point. Sound like fun....and a challenge? Sedona's Homeless Families Need Your Help

See all wishes from Hope House of Sedona

nopic

Description

Did you know there are homeless children living in Sedona? Hope House of Sedona is a 501(C)3 working to provide transitional housing for Sedona's homeless children and their families. Our goal is to have Hope House open by the end of 2021. After receiving a HUD grant through the City of Sedona, along with a two-year fundraising effort, we now have the funds to begin construction but we do not have sufficient funds to open the house. Before we can open the doors for residents, we're asking for financial donations for furnishings, appliances, landscaping, security system, and operating funds.

Because Hope House is not yet open, some families are currently spending the cold nights outdoors. As we have previous winters, we have been able to put some of these families up in hotel rooms on the worst nights. When we hear about families that need this care, we are always scrambling to find money and housing. To better address this situation as it arises, we have decided to start the Hope House Emergency Shelter Fund. We are asking businesses, community groups, individuals and other organizations to please consider contributing to this fund.

Please support us in providing safety, security, and a better future for Sedona's most vulnerable children. You can assist in this journey by sending a check to Hope House of Sedona, 54 Bowstring Drive, Sedona 86335 or donate online at www.hopehouseofsedona.org. Please specify if you would like to designate funds to the Emergency Shelter Fund, otherwise the funds will be used for the other purposes listed above. If you have any questions, please email us at hopehouseofsedona@gmail.com or call 928-852-0001. Thank you!

Sedona Toys for Tots Grateful for Support

See all wishes from Sedona Toys for Tots

Description

Sedona Toys for Tots would like to thank everyone who has donated toys, bicycles and funds to help make this year’s Christmas brighter for local families and children. We collected more than 3,000 toys, stocking stuffers and books from local collection boxes and had enough funds donated to purchase another 2,000 items. This meant that we were able to donate bags of toys to 437 children in West Sedona, 140 children in Beaver Creek and 70 in Oak Creek School. With enough toys to reach out to local preschools, Old Town Mission, Verde Valley Sanctuary and even send toys to the Hopi Reservation. We also had more bicycles donated this year than ever. We distributed a total of 62 bicycles to West Sedona, Beaver Creek, Oak Creek and even 5 to the Hopi Reservation.

We would like to thank the many community organizations and businesses that helped us fulfill our mission. These include Sedona Marine Corps League, Sedona Fire District, Sedona Police Department, Verde Valley Cyclists Coalition, Rotary Club of Sedona Red Rocks, Sedona Community Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul, West Sedona School, Seven Canyons Resort, Sedona Red Rock News, KVRD and others. We’d also like to thank Sedona Ace Hardware and Builders First Source for donations of bags and batteries. Your participation show that the community cares, delivering a message of hope to less fortunate families in our community.

See all wishes from Bwindi Community Program

Description

Give a gift that keeps on giving for a lifetime. Bwindi Community Program has a secondary student, interrupted during his first year by the Covid-19 school closure, who needs a sponsor. He will go back to finish that term in January of 2021. The relationship developed during sponsoring is amazing. Secondary school is a huge step for a rural student. Watch his maturity develop while getting to know this student, his culture and his dreams. Go to BwindiCommunityProgram.org and look at Byamukama Derick on the Children's Page. The rest of the students have recently been sponsored. Call Jan Tanis to discuss the possibilities; a team to support him, etc. The Christmas spirit lives in these children!

Do you have fabric?

Description

If you're clearing closets and cupboards this year's end, we can use any size cotton or cotton blend woven fabric. One yard 44 in. wide will make a high school girl's dress. One yard 60 in. wide will make four baby dresses. Small pieces make pockets.
